Cultures with "strong family networks"-- also makes me think of honor killings and forced marriages, for the supposed good of the family.
And persons not temperamentally suited to being parents having kids can result in more screwed-up offspring. I'll give you a pass, Cori, since you were obviously very pissed about this woman, and as a libertarian prefer individuals to handle these problems rather than governments.
Do you know when the videorecording of Cori's presentation at the European Society for Child & Adolescent Psychiatry conference in Strasbourg might be available for viewing online? I see that they've posted some presentations from their 2023 conference at ESCAP's youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/@escaponline/videos but maybe a friend recorded Cori's and plans to post it sooner?
Cori, just to say it — no matter how high in public my degenerate pothead ass was, i’d never not be disgusted by “protect the dolls”, and my logical faculties remain in tact in general 🤣 and i do work full time and pay taxes ! i do agree that the weed industry is out of control at the moment , i hope in the next few months 3/4 of those shops close, as has been happening in my town.
Not a Coast to Coast listener, sorry, but formerly active in fanfiction writing circles. In my experience, yes, straight women write slash, but a surprising number of lesbians do, or did, too. Baffled me at the time; not sure what the balance is like now. It was a bit of a culture shock when I broke out of my more female character-dominant fandoms into broader fan culture and I learned just how popular slash was. 🤷♀️ I was a het and femslash writer.
agree with this, i do think lesbians are def over represented in slash fanfic. Some lesbians just find it hot and/or fun, and in general i think of writing fanfic as a positive way to spend one’s time — it’s creative and often social. Some lesbians are drawn to slash pairings for the same reason het women are IMO, which is that social baggage of being a woman/lesbian is removed from the table so it doesn’t “distract” from the story, sex, and romance. some women whether het or lesbian are simply sick to death of the drawbacks of living in their own skin.
Very difficult to solve this problem. Opening mental institutions and forcing homeless addicts into detox/treatment seems necessary, but as it’s not profitable there will never be any political willpower to do it.
Cori, please listen to some of the FTC presentations. The presenters came from all over the political spectrum. The officials insisted this is not a partisan issue. FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson is sincere.
More important, the purpose was to discuss the ways in which PGM is fraudulent and different presenters provided different kinds of evidence.
The practitioners routinely commit billing fraud. Practitioners put fraudulent information into medical records. Dr Grossman showed medical documents proving this.
Leta LaStrange (twitter handle) described medicaid fraud and other patient abuses at her public hospital.
Practitioners routinely tell parents that there are no other treatment options (a type of medical fraud).
Leor Sapir explained how circular citation works to perpetuate the fraud on other medical professionals who take the citations at face value.
Jamie Reed pointed out how for a diagnosis to be evidence based, there must be patients who do not receive the diagnosis (eg from blood test results) but in PGM, everyone gets the same diagnosis. No children are ever diagnosed as not having gender dysphoria: another type of medical fraud.
Glenna Goldis discussed the fraud inherent in a term such as "gender"--one that none of the practitioners can actually define.
And detransitioners like Prisha described how she was assured that her emotional issues would be resolved through surgeries and hormones--a claim unsupported by any evidence and another form of medical fraud.
I get that you are annoyed by the outrage over "mutilating surgeries" but these doctors *did* do something wrong, and the FTC might be one of the best regulators to handle it. They can shut down and fine clinics for documented fraud. They can make criminal referrals for billing fraud. And they can subpoena records to find the evidence.
The evidence of fraud is there. This was not an event designed to generate more individual lawsuits (most of which will not succeed) but an effort to explore a variety of avenues with which to shut down PGM no matter the state laws.
At the end, panelists were asked what specifically the FTC should look at: suggestions included the recipients of research grants, hospital billing, and diagnostic documentation. This was good! This was not just politicized posturing! Please check it out.
Family members are definitely the first line of support when people need help. And often we fail, even though we try real hard. My stepson died due to addiction and homelessness at age 23, and we loved him very much, still do of course. His family wasn't perfect, but he knew he was loved, and he had a place to go, despite how hard it was to live with him. In our case, parents' divorce and displacement from his hometown were huge factors in how emotionally unstable he became. I do think family values should be more important to everyone, and I do think we need more hospitals. Legalizing pot has not been a great thing for my town. Addiction of any kind is very hard for most people to overcome, but they have to do it, and it is possible. Ultimately we have to want to do it.
I agree with Cory about degeneracy. I also live in the Midwest (Minneapolis), and I have found human feces in the alley behind my house. I also found blood from a shooting. The guy survived, thank goodness. Meanwhile, no one can afford to buy a house in my neighborhood anymore unless they have two professional adult breadwinners. I think when people are pointing out problems, they are starting a conversation, and just because you bring up the problem, that doesn't mean you have to have all the answers.

The root cause of increased homelessness and associated difficulties is governmental enablement and encouragement of reproduction.
